<Draft>When we think about the contribution of Ancient India towards Math, the most prominent thing we will get is invention of '0'. But, is it the only contribution? Certainly not. In this article, I would like to shed some light on few other contributions of India towards Math.
Zero and Decimal system
The decimal number system, which the entire world is currently using is a contribution of India. It would have been impossible to represent large numbers using Roman numbers. The decimal system from India, reached Europe via Arabia. So, these numbers are generally referred to as Arabic numbers. But, their origin is in India. Here is an image I found in Wikipedia.
While I won't say that without the contribution of ancient Indian mathematicians we would still be struggling with the unscalable Roman numbers. This contribution of India to the world is truly remarkable.
Value of Pi
Wheel is considered one of the greatest inventions ever made that helped with human development. While many great mathematicians across the world tried to find the the value of pi(perimeter of circle divided by diameter), which is required for many calculations. An Indian mathematician Aryabhatta has approximated the value of pi to 3.1416 before 500AD. His famous sanskrit sloka is
