Krishna: Arjuna, let me retell you the wisdom that leads to salvation. Who ever understands this will become part of me and don't need to worry about the rebirth cycle anymore.
For every living thing, nature is the mother and I am the father. The “Sath”, “Rajas” and “Tamoh” attributes which are part of nature imprisons the soul of the living being in their body. The “Sath” attribute is the purest and keeps a person pleasant. The “Rajas” attribute will cause desire in a person. The “Tamas” attribute causes ignorance, thereby resulting in hallucinations and laziness. This way, these 3 attributes imprisons a person in his body. In other words, the “Sath” attribute will make a person search for happiness, the “Rajas” attribute will keep a person busy with their worldly deeds and the “Tamas” attribute will mask the wisdom for a person. A person has to go through “Rajas” and “Tamas” attributes to reach the “Sath” attribute.
A person with the “Sath” attribute is filled with wisdom. A person with the “Rajas” attribute will show lust, procrastination, unhappiness and greed. A person with the “Tamas” attribute will show gloominess, laziness, forgetfulness and is superstitious.
Tasks performed with “Sath” attribute will give pure happiness, tasks performed with “Rajas” attribute will only cause unhappiness and tasks performed with “Tamas” attribute will only cause ignorance. In reality, these attributes are the reason for the tasks performed. The one who understands this and overcomes the influence of these 3 attributes will attain salvation.
Arjuna: Krishna, what will be the ethos of a person who overcomes these attributes? How do they behave? What is the way to reach that place?
Krishna: The one who overcame the influence of these attributes neither hate having them nor crave to have them. They treat and value everything equally, they neither get excited or get disappointed, they are brave and they don't crave for anything. They reach the Brahman.
